BACK TO THE BOOKS!

...did I ever leave though?...The MAPP course doesn't take a break in your head because even on holidays you find yourself thinking about what you wrote, what you read and how you're integrating all these thoughts and ideas in your own practice and in everyday life.

Last term was really tricky for me in terms of understanding what was required of me, having enough time to read relevant bibliography and connect all the dots. I still haven't connected all the dots as the dots keep moving and changing (!). I guess that's a good thing. Knowledge is fluid and constantly moving.

I feel that I am now reaching a point somewhere in the middle - as suggested by Adesola's blog - whereby I'm in a routine of thoughts and actions and regularly searching and curious about new books and articles that will engage me.
Student engagement at MAPP still seems really far off at the moment, at least in my experience as I haven't been able to engage with more than one person last term, and only over essay practicalities. I'm hoping that can improve this term beyond me reading other people's blogs.

I'm looking forward to the exciting road ahead and to more learning experiences.

  1. Hi Iris

Thanks for your comment. Rather than Google you, why don't you tell us what you do and where you are? Looks really interesting!

    Take care

    1. Hello Rhoda,

Sure thing. I teach African Diasporic dance styles as an Independent practitioner. I teach my own classes as well as guest teaching in schools. Styles I teach include: West African forms/ Afro Cuban and Afro portuguese dance styles. Looking forward to reading your blog too

  2. Hi Iris - Yes it's my mission to get better connected this term. I read in the module handbook about using a LinkedIn group to connect with MAPP students that share our own field of study. It seems like a good idea, but so far I haven't done anything to investigate the idea further. I'm also adding you all to me email alerts, so I know when you've posted, that might help with building conversations. Let me know if you've got any ideas that might help.
It feels great to have got to the middle!

    1. Hello Stella

Yes, I read about the Linkedin group also. Frankly I'm trying to minimise all the platforms I have to link with. I would be happy with just a whatsaap group. That's what all Uni students do normally. Lets keep in touch!

    2. Hi
Yes I think whatsap's the way forward, even if we just use it to let everyone know we've blogged, then the conversations on here might become more 'conversationy' - also for cries of help!

  3. Hi Iris,

Your comment on knowledge is fluid and constantly moving, made me consider taking time to pause every so often just to feel reconnected with what I understand. I find it exciting that you have continued to think about the theories and research that have integrated your everyday life. I would love to keep this as consistent in my life.

Looking forward to reading more of your blogs.

    1. Hi Jessica

Thanks, yes, I definitely found it important to allow time to think, something quite precarious on a day to day life but very necessary for this course I find. Consistency is the key indeed, you are so right. Talk soon
